As a company with a global reach, producing in seven factories  across Europe and Asia, we are particularly proud of our factory in Poland. It's not only the largest factory in our Espersen family, but also provides employment for over 2000 people.
In Koszalin, where the heart of our company beats, we not only produce our fish specialties, but employ many specialists in departments supporting production and sales – technical department, quality department, health and safety, environmental protection, logistics, HR, accounting and administration. This makes us one of the more attractive employers in Central Pomerania.

In 1937, the Espersen family relocated to the small Danish island of Bornholm, situated in the middle of the Baltic Sea.

Jens Peter Arnold (“J.P.A.”) Espersen and his wife Dagny were determined to establish the island's first cod factory.

The J.P.A. and Dagny Espersen Foundation was established in 1971.

The Beginnings

Początek fundacji - 1971

In 1972, the company established cooperation with a well-known fast-food restaurant chain.

In 1982, production was opened in Hasle.

In 1995, the first international manufacturing plant was opened -
in Koszalin.
In 2021, there was a merger of two large plants in Koszalin - the Bartents Sea factory were joined by the North Sea factory. Espersen Poland was formed.

Agnieszka - Leading Operator

We are innovative

For me, it's about changes, improvements, and personal growth, but also the development of our organisation, which makes us competitive. The world is racing forward, our needs and expectations are changing, and this value allows us to reach our goal and be the best.
Agata - Project Leader

We operate in a sustainable manner

We support sustainable fishing, responsibly utilise resources in line with the zero waste principle, and minimise greenhouse gas emissions, water and energy consumption. We are honest

It's fundamental to us. We always tell each other the truth, regardless of the situation. We expect the same from the employer who created these values and guides by them. We believe that only honesty builds genuine trust and a good atmosphere at work.
Agnieszka - Production Worker

We communicate clearly

We communicate with each other despite cultural differences and language barriers. We avoid misunderstandings and everyone knows what to do and how. We all work together on communication and understanding each other by expressing our needs and listening to theirs.
Gagan Kumari - Production Worker

SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

What does this really mean?

Imagine a world where each of us can enjoy life, not worrying about what we are leaving behind for future generations. Sustainable development is precisely such a plan of action - we take care to meet our present needs, without compromising the ability of future generations to achieve their dreams and goals.

Why are fish important in all of this?

Over recent decades, fish have become a vital part of our diet - not only are they OMEGA-rich and healthy, but their fishing and production provide a livelihood for millions of people worldwide. Since the 1960s, the role of fish in our diet and awareness of their beneficial effect on our health has risen sharply. In short, the oceans are a colossal larder and source of sustenance for millions of people

Our sea, our fish, our future

At Espersen, there's no room for improvisation when it comes to sustainable development. That's why we strictly collaborate with the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) - a global organisation that establishes standards for sustainable fisheries. As a result, we can guarantee that our fish comes from sources that don't threaten marine ecosystems. We consistently review our actions to ensure that we are making a real difference. Our sustainable development programme is more than just talk – it's about concrete actions:

Sustainable Fisheries: Because every fish matters.
Supply Chain Integrity: Transparency from hook to plate.
Resource Efficiency: Because less is more.
Caring for Our Employees: Because each of us matters.
